Solution:
Select the text and select 'Font...' from the 'Format' menu. Select 'Italic' from the 'Font Style' list box.
1) Select the desired text.
2) Select 'Font...' from the 'Format' menu. (The 'Font' dialog box appears.)
3) Select 'Italic' from the 'Font Style' list box.
4) Click 'OK'.
